Understanding visible vascular changes

Leg Veins

UNDERSTANDING LEG VEINS

Visible leg veins are a common concern and can affect both men and women. They may appear as fine red thread veins, small blue veins or larger superficial vessels and often become more noticeable over time.

While they're usually harmless, many people choose to have them treated because of the way they look or the self-consciousness they can cause.

How it can present:

• Fine red thread veins
• Small blue superficial veins
• Clusters of visible vessels
• Spider veins
• Cosmetic vascular concerns on the legs

What influences leg veins?

Several factors can contribute to the development of leg veins, including:

/ Genetics
/ Pregnancy
/ Hormonal changes|
/ Age
/ Occupations involving prolonged standing
/ Previous injury
/ Increased pressure within the veins

How I approach treatment?

Not all leg veins are suitable for cosmetic laser treatment, so assessment is an important first step.

During your consultation, I'll assess the size, depth and type of vessels to determine whether Cutera Excel V+ is likely to provide a good outcome. Where larger or underlying venous issues are suspected, I may recommend further assessment with your GP or a vascular specialist before proceeding.

For appropriate vessels, laser treatment offers a precise, non-surgical option that works by delivering energy directly to the vein, causing it to gradually collapse and be naturally reabsorbed by the body.

What should I know before treatment?

Leg veins often require a series of treatments depending on their size, depth and how your body responds. While many suitable superficial vessels respond beautifully, no treatment can prevent new veins from developing over time, particularly where genetics, circulation or lifestyle factors play a role.

Laser treatment is intended for small, superficial leg veins and is not suitable for varicose veins. If the vessels appear larger, raised or suggestive of underlying venous insufficiency, I may recommend assessment by your GP or a vascular specialist before proceeding. In some cases, another form of vascular treatment may be more appropriate than laser.

Following treatment, compression garments may be recommended in some cases, and walking is generally encouraged to support healthy circulation. You'll receive personalised aftercare instructions based on your treatment.
