Understanding uneven tone and discolouration

Pigmentation

What is Pigmentation?

Pigmentation refers to changes in the skin's natural colour caused by increased melanin production. While melanin plays an important protective role, factors such as UV exposure, hormones, inflammation and certain medications can trigger excess pigment production, resulting in uneven skin tone.

Pigmentation may sit within different layers of the skin, making accurate assessment essential before treatment begins.

How it can present:

/ Sun spots
/ Freckles
/ Post-inflammatory pigmentation
/ Melasma/chloasma
/ Uneven skin tone

How I approach treatment?

Before recommending treatment, it's important to determine what's causing the pigmentation and where it sits within the skin. Not all pigmentation responds to the same treatment, and using the wrong approach can sometimes worsen the condition—particularly in cases such as melasma.Treatment plans are carefully tailored to your individual presentation and often combine in-clinic treatments with a personalised homecare routine designed to regulate pigment production and protect the skin long-term.
