Microneedling
A regenerative treatment designed to stimulate the skin’s own repair processes, supporting collagen and elastin production while improving the quality, strength and texture of the skin over time.
Using the Dermapen device, thousands of controlled microchannels are created within the skin at carefully selected depths. This controlled micro-injury initiates the skin’s natural wound-healing response, stimulating cellular renewal and the formation and remodelling of collagen without relying on heat.
As microneedling temporarily disrupts the skin barrier, hygiene and treatment-room protocols are especially important. The treatment is performed under strict hygienic conditions using a new, sterile single-use needle cartridge and wound kit for every client, with careful preparation of the skin and only professional formulations specifically designed for use during microneedling.
Each treatment is tailored to the individual rather than needling the entire face at one uniform depth. Needle depth, passes and treatment intensity are adjusted across different areas according to skin thickness, concern and desired endpoint, allowing us to work precisely while respecting the integrity of the skin.
Professional infusion serums are selected according to your skin and delivered during treatment, followed by a restorative post-treatment masque and Dermalux LED Light Therapy to calm inflammation and support the skin through its early repair response.
Microneedling is particularly valuable when the goal is progressive skin revision rather than a temporary surface change. While a single treatment can improve radiance and skin quality, it is most effective when approached as a course, allowing each treatment to build upon the last as collagen formation and remodelling continue over time.
For concerns such as scarring, texture, fine lines and loss of firmness, a personalised series is typically recommended, followed by maintenance treatments where appropriate.

Dermapen Microneedling FAQs
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a regenerative treatment that uses fine, sterile needles to create thousands of controlled microchannels within the skin.
These controlled micro-injuries initiate the skin’s natural wound-healing response, stimulating fibroblast activity and encouraging the production and remodelling of collagen and elastin. Rather than relying on heat or aggressively resurfacing the skin, microneedling encourages the skin to progressively rebuild and strengthen from within.
Microneedling can be particularly effective for:
/ Acne and other atrophic scarring
/ Uneven or irregular texture
/ Enlarged pores
/ Fine lines and wrinkles
/ Loss of firmness and elasticity
/ Sun-related skin changes
/ Certain forms of pigmentation and post-inflammatory pigmentation
/ General skin rejuvenation and collagen support
Treatment depth and technique are adapted according to the concern, area being treated and individual skin.
Yes. While a single treatment can improve radiance and overall skin quality, microneedling is best approached as a course when we're working towards meaningful change in collagen, texture, scarring or firmness.
Each treatment initiates a new cycle of repair and remodelling, with changes continuing to develop between appointments. A carefully spaced series allows us to build progressively on this response rather than expecting one treatment to create the full change.
For general rejuvenation and collagen support, approximately 4-6 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart may be recommended. More established concerns, particularly acne scarring or significant textural change, may require a longer programme.
Some clients notice brighter, fresher-looking skin around the one week mark, once the initial redness and dryness have settled, but the most important changes happen gradually.
Collagen formation and remodelling take time. Improvements in texture, firmness, fine lines and scarring can continue to develop over the weeks and months following treatment, with changes becoming more noticeable across a course.
The collagen produced through the wound-healing response becomes part of the skin, so microneedling is not simply creating a temporary cosmetic effect.
The skin will, however, continue to age and respond to UV exposure, hormones, inflammation, lifestyle and environmental factors. Once an initial course is complete, periodic maintenance treatments can help continue supporting collagen production and overall skin quality.
I don't routinely use numbing cream for microneedling.
Most clients describe the sensation as scratchy and occasionally uncomfortable rather than painful. Some areas — particularly the forehead, nose and around the mouth — naturally feel more intense than others.
Treatment depth is continually adjusted according to the area being treated, your skin and the desired endpoint, and most clients find the treatment very manageable.
Expect the skin to look pink to red and feel warm, tight and slightly tender immediately following treatment — often similar to the feeling of mild to moderate sunburn.
The degree of redness will depend on treatment intensity and your individual skin response. A restorative masque and Dermalux LED Light Therapy are incorporated immediately afterwards to calm and support the skin through its early repair response.
Downtime is generally relatively short, but microneedling is deliberately creating a controlled wound-healing response, so some visible recovery should be expected.
Redness and warmth are usually most noticeable immediately following treatment and over the first 24–48 hours, similar to that of a sunburn. As this settles, the skin may feel dry, tight or slightly rough and some light flaking can occur over the following few days.
Occasionally, congestion or small breakouts may temporarily surface during the post-treatment period.
I recommend leaving the skin clean and makeup-free immediately following microneedling while the wound channels remain open and the barrier begins its initial recovery.
Your individual post-treatment instructions will include when it is appropriate to reintroduce makeup and your usual skincare, depending on how your skin has responded.
Less is more immediately following microneedling.
The priority is supporting hydration, barrier recovery and protecting the skin rather than introducing unnecessary stimulation. Your post-treatment regime will be discussed with you and tailored according to your existing regime.
Retinoids, exfoliating acids and other potentially irritating actives should be temporarily paused. I generally recommend waiting approximately 5-7 days before reintroducing retinol, although this may vary according to how your skin has recovered.
Daily SPF is non-negotiable.
During the immediate recovery period, avoid anything likely to increase heat, inflammation or irritation in the skin. This includes strenuous exercise, saunas and steam rooms, very hot showers, swimming, direct sun exposure and exfoliating or highly active skincare.
Do not pick or manually exfoliate any dryness or flaking. Allow the skin to move through its repair process naturally.
Not immediately. Exercise increases heat, sweat and circulation at a time when the skin barrier is temporarily compromised.
It's best to avoid strenuous exercise during the initial post-treatment period and follow the specific aftercare provided at your appointment.
Dermalux LED Light Therapy is incorporated after every microneedling treatment to support the skin through its early recovery response.
The wavelength and programme are selected according to the skin, with the intention of calming inflammation, supporting cellular repair and blue light provides powerful anti-bacterial action.
Only professional formulations specifically suited to microneedling are used while the skin is being treated.
The infusion serum is selected according to your skin and treatment goals and may focus on hydration, repair or other targeted skin-supportive ingredients.
This is an important distinction: ordinary skincare is not designed to be introduced into freshly created microchannels, so product selection during microneedling is deliberately controlled.
Yes. Full face and neck are included as standard within my microneedling treatment.
The décolletage can also be added where appropriate, particularly when treating visible sun damage, fine lines, textural changes or loss of skin quality through the chest.
Yes. Microneedling can be particularly valuable for certain forms of atrophic acne scarring because the wound-healing response encourages collagen formation and remodelling within areas where the skin's structure has been disrupted.
Scar type, depth and age all influence how the skin will respond, however, and not every scar should be treated in the same way. A consultation allows us to assess your scarring and establish realistic treatment expectations.
I generally avoid needling directly through active, inflamed or infected acne lesions.
Where acne is actively inflamed, the priority is usually to first reduce inflammation, support the barrier and establish greater stability within the skin. Microneedling can then become particularly useful for addressing residual scarring, texture and post-inflammatory changes.
It can form part of a treatment plan for certain forms of pigmentation and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, but pigment should always be properly assessed first.
Pigmentation can be driven by UV exposure, inflammation, hormones, trauma and other factors, and more stimulation isn't necessarily appropriate for every condition. Melasma in particular requires a thoughtful approach.
Treatment depth, inflammation control and homecare therefore matter just as much as the procedure itself.
Microneedling isn't automatically appropriate for every red or rosacea-prone skin.
For some stable skins, collagen induction may eventually form part of a broader treatment plan. During an active rosacea flare or where the skin is significantly inflamed, sensitised or barrier-impaired, we would generally prioritise calming and strengthening the skin first.
Suitability is assessed individually rather than treating redness or rosacea as a single condition.
Yes, for appropriately selected skins.
BioRePeel may be incorporated where additional resurfacing and regenerative stimulation are indicated. Combining treatments isn't inherently better, however, and I won't add a peel simply for the sake of making the treatment more intensive.
Your barrier function, sensitivity, concern, treatment history and desired endpoint will determine whether the combination is appropriate.
Yes, and the two can complement one another particularly well within a longer-term skin plan.
They can in fact be performed together, and treatments can also be alternated with appropriate spacing, allowing us to work through different pathways — microneedling for controlled collagen induction and remodelling, and Laser Genesis for dermal heating, vascular support and further collagen stimulation.
Arrive with the skin healthy and intact, without active sunburn, irritation or an impaired barrier.
Avoid unnecessary aggressive exfoliation or treatments immediately beforehand, and let me know about any recent cosmetic procedures, changes in medication, medical conditions or active skin concerns.
If you're using prescription skincare, retinoids or other highly active products, we can advise you when these should be paused before treatment.
Treatment may need to be postponed or avoided where there are:
/ Active skin infections or cold sores
/ Open wounds
/ Active, inflamed acne within the treatment area
/ Significant barrier impairment or acute inflammation
/ Active eczema, dermatitis or psoriasis within the treatment area
/ Recent significant sun exposure or sunburn
/ Certain medical conditions or medications affecting healing
/ A history of abnormal or keloid scarring, where relevant
/ Recent cosmetic or medical procedures that require an appropriate healing interval
Client suitability will always be assessed prior to treatment. If your skin isn't ready to be needled, we'll address what it needs first rather than pushing ahead with treatment.
Microneedling is a treatment where consistency matters more than intensity. It isn't about creating the most aggressive treatment possible or chasing excessive redness or bleeding as an endpoint.
Treatment depth and technique are selected according to your skin, anatomy and concern, with the intention of creating enough controlled stimulation to initiate repair while respecting the skin's ability to recover.
For meaningful changes in scarring, texture, collagen and overall skin quality, think of microneedling as a progressive treatment programme rather than a one-off appointment.
Because microneedling creates temporary microchannels within the skin, hygiene is taken particularly seriously. A new, sterile single-use needle cartridge is used for every treatment, sterile gloves and wound kit, alongside careful skin preparation and strict treatment-room hygiene protocols.
Only professional formulations specifically appropriate for microneedling are used during the procedure, and post-treatment care is designed to protect and support the skin while its barrier recovers.
